Bhubaneswar, 02 June (H.S.): Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday described the birth of four cubs by tigress 'Jinat' in the favorable habitat of Similipal Tiger Reserve as a significant achievement for Odisha’s tiger conservation programme.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the development marks a proud milestone in the state’s efforts toward natural resource management and wildlife conservation. 'Jinat', a tigress relocated from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, has successfully given birth to four cubs in Similipal, reflecting the suitability of the reserve’s habitat for the species.
Majhi noted that the achievement is not only expected to strengthen the tiger population in Odisha but also highlights the state government's commitment to preserving biodiversity and creating a safe, sustainable environment for wildlife. He said the successful breeding is a testament to the administration’s long-term vision and effective conservation strategies.
The Chief Minister further informed that the Forest Department has implemented special measures to ensure the safety of both the tigress and her cubs. Continuous monitoring is being carried out to track their movements and safeguard their well-being.
He credited the dedicated efforts of forest personnel and the implementation of robust conservation policies for enhancing Odisha’s reputation as a secure habitat for wildlife. According to him, the state has emerged as a model for wildlife protection through consistent monitoring and scientific management practices.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to conservation, Majhi stated that all necessary steps will continue to be taken to maintain the ecological balance of Similipal and further strengthen Odisha’s wildlife conservation initiatives in the years ahead.
The birth of the four cubs is being viewed as a major boost to tiger conservation efforts in the state and an encouraging sign for the future growth of the tiger population in Similipal.
