
NEW DELHI, June 2 (H.S.): Global markets are indicating weakness today. Although U.S. markets managed to close in positive territory during the previous session, Dow Jones futures are currently trading lower. European markets remained under sustained selling pressure in the last session, while Asian markets are witnessing mixed trading today.
The U.S. stock market remained firm during the previous session, supported by strong gains in technology stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.09 percent higher at 51,078.88 points. Similarly, the S&P 500 Index ended the session with a gain of 0.26 percent at 7,599.96 points. The Nasdaq also advanced by 114.19 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 27,086.81 points.
However, Dow Jones futures are currently trading lower by 201.85 points, or 0.40 percent, at 50,877.03 points, indicating a cautious start for U.S. markets.
European markets witnessed continuous selling pressure throughout the previous trading session. The FTSE Index declined 0.68 percent to close at 10,338.95 points. Likewise, the CAC Index slipped 0.45 percent to settle at 8,146.59 points. The DAX Index also ended lower, falling by 101.66 points, or 0.41 percent, to close at 25,003.04 points.
Asian markets are showing a mixed trend today. Out of the nine major Asian indices being tracked, five are trading in negative territory, while four are posting gains.
The Hang Seng Index is currently up by 348.82 points, or 1.37 percent, at 25,747 points. The SET Composite Index has gained 0.94 percent to reach 1,583.04 points. Similarly, the Jakarta Composite Index has risen 0.71 percent to 6,171.01 points, while the Straits Times Index is trading 0.44 percent higher at 5,059.82 points.
On the other hand, GIFT Nifty is trading lower by 115.50 points, or 0.49 percent, at 23,326 points. The Taiwan Weighted Index has declined by 286.52 points, or 0.63 percent, to 45,051.39 points.
South Korea’s KOSPI Index has witnessed a sharp decline and is currently down by 204.81 points, or 2.33 percent, at 8,583.57 points. Japan’s Nikkei Index has also fallen significantly, shedding 1,069.33 points, or 1.60 percent, to trade at 65,865 points. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Composite Index is trading marginally lower by 0.04 percent at 4,056.24 points.
