
Mumbai, 18 June (HS): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis expressed his condolences on the death of famous singer, actor, and
Padma Shri awardee Prasad Savkar. Savkar died in Goa at the age of 98. Fadnavis
expressed great sadness over Savkar's death, paying respect to his outstanding
career in Marathi musical theater (Sangeet Natak) and Indian classical music.
The Chief Minister praised the artist's renowned accomplishments, stating that
Savkar's death signals the end of a magnificent period in safeguarding Natya
Sangeet's cultural legacy.
Maharashtra CM penned a post on X, which reads as follows: “The
news of the passing of Prasad Savkar, the senior singer and actor honored with
the Padma Shri Award and a towering figure in Marathi musical theater, is
extremely heartbreaking. With his departure, a brilliant era in the field of
Marathi musical drama has come to a close. With his distinctive singing style,
compelling acting, and invaluable contributions to the preservation and
promotion of musical theater, he had firmly captured the hearts of audiences.
His work in the arts and his rich legacy will forever remain an inspiration for
generations to come. I offer my heartfelt tribute to him. We share in the grief
of his family.”
