Guwahati, 18 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that Dr Habbey Teron, MLA from Amri (ST) Hills, will be the ruling party’s candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

Making the announcement through a social media post, the Chief Minister said Dr Teron, a medical professional by training, is the first elected representative from the newly created Amri constituency. He noted that the legislator embodies the aspirations of Assam’s tribal communities.

Dr Sarma further stated that Dr Teron’s elevation would strengthen the representation of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the legislative process. He expressed confidence that the MLA’s experience and commitment to public service would contribute positively to the functioning of the Assembly and help amplify the concerns of tribal communities.-----------
