
New Delhi, June 16 (HS): Domestic equity benchmarks traded in positive territory during early trade on Tuesday, supported by broad-based buying across sectors. Both the Sensex and Nifty opened higher and extended gains despite intermittent volatility in the opening hour.
At around 10:45 a.m., the BSE Sensex was trading 392.56 points, or 0.51 per cent, higher at 76,656.89, while the NSE Nifty gained 113.75 points, or 0.48 per cent, to 23,967.65.
Among the major gainers on the Nifty were Trent, Shriram Finance, HDFC Life, Eicher Motors and InterGlobe Aviation. On the other hand, NTPC, Bajaj Auto, ONGC, ICICI Bank and Hindalco Industries were trading marginally lower.
Market breadth remained positive, with 2,294 stocks advancing against 747 declines out of 3,041 actively traded shares. On the Sensex, 19 of the 30 constituent stocks were trading in the green, while 11 were in negative territory. On the Nifty, 31 stocks advanced and 19 declined.
The Sensex opened 262.44 points higher at 76,526.77 and touched an intraday high of 76,702.33 before witnessing some profit-booking. The index also slipped to a low of 76,443.34 during early trade.
Similarly, the Nifty opened 70 points higher at 23,923.90 and moved between 23,888.20 and 23,972.75 during the session.
In the previous session on Monday, the Sensex had rallied 736.38 points, or 0.98 per cent, to close at 76,264.33, while the Nifty gained 231 points, or 0.98 per cent, to settle at 23,853.90.
