New Delhi, June 16 (HS): Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of acting unfairly towards the Opposition in connection with the Constitution Amendment Bill debated in Parliament earlier this year.
In a post on social media platform X, Ramesh claimed that the TDP had suggested amendments to the Constitution Amendment Bill on April 16. According to him, the proposed changes were aimed at ensuring a substantial increase in parliamentary representation for states.
He alleged that despite the suggestions made by the TDP, no such amendment was incorporated into the Bill by the Union government, raising questions about the party's position on the issue.
Without naming any individual, the Congress leader said that those projecting themselves as political strategists had been exposed during the parliamentary proceedings and alleged that the Opposition was not taken into confidence.
Ramesh further claimed that the role of the Opposition in Parliament was being weakened and expressed concern over what he described as disregard for democratic processes and parliamentary conventions.
He also alleged that concerns and suggestions raised by Opposition parties during the legislative process were not given adequate consideration.
There was no immediate response from the Telugu Desam Party or the Andhra Pradesh government to the allegations.
