Centre Raises Windfall Tax on Diesel, ATF Exports

New Delhi, June 16 (HS): The Centre has increased the special additional excise duty, commonly known as windfall tax, on exports of diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), while keeping the levy on petrol exports unchanged.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Ministry, the revised rates came into effect on June 16.

Under the new rates, the windfall tax on diesel exports has been increased from Rs 13.50 per litre to Rs 14 per litre. The levy on ATF exports has been raised from Rs 9.50 per litre to Rs 12.50 per litre.

The duty on petrol exports remains unchanged at Rs 1.50 per litre.

The ministry said the decision was taken to ensure adequate availability of fuel in the domestic market. There has been no change in the existing duty structure applicable to petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption.

According to the notification, the revised export duties will not apply to domestic sales. The rates will also not apply to exports made by public sector oil marketing companies to Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The previous revision in export duties was carried out on June 1.
