New Delhi, June 16 (HS): The Centre on Tuesday dismissed media reports claiming that it was working on a deep-sea energy pipeline project connecting Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf countries.
In a statement, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said it had taken note of reports referring to a proposed Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP) linking India with countries in the Gulf region.
The ministry clarified that no such proposal is currently under consideration. It also said there are no ongoing discussions or negotiations with Oman or any other Gulf country on the project at any level.
The clarification is being issued to dispel speculation relating to the matter, the ministry said.
Separately, the ministry informed that an LNG vessel carrying 62,370 tonnes of liquefied natural gas had safely transited through the Strait of Hormuz and was on its way to Dahej in Gujarat.
Dahej, located in Bharuch district, is one of India's key industrial and port hubs and serves as a major LNG import destination.
