New Delhi, June 16 (HS): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the NDA government will reintroduce the Delimitation Bill with a provision ensuring a proportionate increase in parliamentary seats across states.
In an interview, Naidu said the proposed legislation would address concerns regarding representation while maintaining the existing proportional share of seats among states.
He also expressed support for the implementation of women's reservation in legislatures, saying the measure was necessary to enhance women's participation in politics.
According to Naidu, the government had earlier clarified that any expansion in Lok Sabha seats would not alter the proportional representation of states. He said concerns raised by some opposition parties over the issue could be addressed through suitable provisions in the revised legislation.
Referring to the delimitation freeze implemented during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Naidu recalled that southern states had expressed concerns about being disadvantaged due to population control measures. He said the issue would need to be addressed carefully in any future delimitation exercise.
The NDA ally expressed confidence that a revised proposal could secure broader political support if brought before Parliament.
