Washington, 15 June (HS): US President Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday by attending a UFC mixed martial arts event held on the South Lawn of the White House.

The event was attended by senior administration officials, political leaders and invited guests. Trump was accompanied by UFC President Dana White during the programme.

Earlier in the day, Trump said that an agreement between the United States and Iran had been completed and expressed hope that it would contribute to regional stability. He also referred to the proposed reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following the formalisation of the agreement.

The White House event formed part of broader activities linked to commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Thousands of spectators attended the event, which featured UFC bouts in a specially constructed arena on the White House grounds.

Trump is scheduled to travel to France to participate in meetings with world leaders during the G7 Summit.
