Ivory Coast Beat Ecuador

Philadelphia, 15 June (HS): Ivory Coast secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their Group E match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Sunday, with Amad Diallo scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute.

Ecuador enjoyed strong support from fans throughout the match and created several scoring opportunities from the outset. In the 24th minute, John Yeboah's powerful effort struck the crossbar, while Alan Minda also came close six minutes later, only to see his attempt hit the woodwork.

Ivory Coast, too, created chances during the contest. Elye Wahi's effort struck the post, while Seko Fofana and Franck Kessie played key roles in controlling the midfield.

As the match appeared headed for a goalless draw, Wilfried Singo launched a decisive move in the 90th minute and set up Amad Diallo. The forward showed excellent control outside the penalty area before firing a precise shot into the net to seal victory for Ivory Coast.

Although Diallo scored the winning goal, young Ivory Coast player Ian Diomande also impressed with his pace and attacking play, consistently troubling the Ecuadorian defence.

With the victory, Ivory Coast made a strong start to their Group E campaign and moved to three points. The team is now level on points with Germany, which defeated Curacao 7-1 in its opening match.

Ecuador, meanwhile, will be under pressure to secure a positive result in its next outing after failing to convert several scoring opportunities despite creating numerous chances.
