Houston, 15 June (HS): Germany made an emphatic start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding 7-1 victory over tournament debutants Curacao in a Group E match on Sunday.
Kai Havertz scored twice for Germany, while Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav added a goal each as Julian Nagelsmann's side registered a dominant win.
Germany began the match on an attacking note, though Curacao managed to stay competitive during the early stages. In the 21st minute, Livano Comenencia found the net to level the score and register Curacao's first-ever goal in FIFA World Cup history.
The equaliser, however, only briefly halted Germany's momentum. The four-time world champions quickly regained control of the contest through quick passing, sustained attacking pressure and clinical finishing.
Germany continued to create chances throughout the match and added goals at regular intervals, completely overwhelming the Curacao defence. The team's dominance remained evident in the second half as they extended their lead and sealed a comprehensive victory.
Havertz's brace highlighted the German attack, while several teammates also got on the scoresheet in a well-rounded team performance.
With the win, Germany made a strong start to their Group E campaign and underlined their credentials as one of the tournament contenders. Curacao, meanwhile, will look to recover in their next match after a difficult opening outing.
