India and Germany Hold High-Level Talks in New Delhi to Strengthen Development Partnership


New Delhi, 13 June (H.S.):

A high-level meeting aimed at strengthening India-Germany development cooperation was held in New Delhi between representatives of NITI Aayog and a German delegation.

According to a post shared by NITI Aayog on X on Saturday, the meeting was chaired by Sanjeet Singh, Director of the Economics and Finance Programme at NITI Aayog. The German delegation was led by Barbara Schäfer, Head of the Asia and South Asia Policy Division at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Earlier, NITI Aayog welcomed the high-level German delegation for a dedicated bilateral discussion aimed at advancing the India-Germany development partnership. The talks focused on a range of strategic issues, including clean energy, environmental protection, sustainable development, agricultural reforms, water management, and the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the green economy.

During the discussions, both sides emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation to address climate change and promote sustainable development. Key areas of collaboration included India’s net-zero transition, renewable energy, the circular economy, sustainable infrastructure through public-private partnerships, agricultural transformation, water resource management, and greater involvement of small and medium enterprises in the green economy.

According to NITI Aayog, the discussions also explored the alignment of bilateral financing mechanisms with sustainable development commitments and long-term economic objectives. Particular attention was given to strengthening cooperation in infrastructure financing and enhancing the confidence of global investors in India’s climate and regulatory frameworks.

Both sides highlighted the complementary strengths of Germany’s technical expertise and development-finance capabilities and India’s policy ambitions and institutional scale. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen the India-Germany development partnership through continued dialogue, cooperation, and coordinated action across priority sectors.
