New Delhi, 12 June (H.S.): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested two individuals in connection with the stone-pelting incident targeting the Lucknow–New Delhi Shatabdi Express near Firozabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh. The accused were identified with the help of CCTV footage collected during the investigation.
According to railway officials, the incident occurred at approximately 7:18 p.m. on June 11, when Train No. 12003, the Lucknow–New Delhi Shatabdi Express, was approaching Firozabad station under the Prayagraj Division. Following the incident, the Railway Protection Force and other concerned authorities launched an investigation.
Officials said CCTV footage from the station and surrounding areas was thoroughly examined, leading to the identification of the suspects. Based on the evidence gathered, two accused persons were arrested.
Railway authorities stated that further legal proceedings are underway. Emphasising that passenger safety remains their highest priority, officials said strict action would be taken against anyone involved in such acts. No passenger injuries were reported in the incident. However, railway authorities noted that stone-pelting incidents pose a serious threat to both passenger safety and railway property.
Notably, on Thursday evening, some miscreants allegedly targeted the Lucknow–New Delhi Shatabdi Express near Pameshwar Gate between Makkhanpur and Firozabad railway stations. At the time of the incident, Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, was travelling in the train's E-1 coach. Neither he nor any other passenger sustained injuries during the incident.
When the train reached Tundla Junction, an RPF team inspected the affected coach and found damage only to the outer window pane. Following the incident, local police, the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), and other security agencies reached the site and initiated an investigation.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe, a seven-member police team had been constituted to investigate the matter. Action was subsequently taken based on the analysis of CCTV footage.
Railway officials reiterated that stringent action would continue against individuals who endanger passenger safety and disrupt railway operations through such unlawful activities.
