MOSCOW, June 10 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Northern European countries are considering creating deportation centers for refugees outside the European Union, Politico reported on Wednesday, citing Swedish Migration Minister Johan Forssell.
Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, and Greece regularly discuss the creation of return centers. Nordic countries are also considering a pilot project, the report said.
One idea involves using return centers located outside the EU for one specific nationality, the Swedish minister said.
Decisions on which nationalities this would affect have not yet been made, but European countries face the same kind of problems when it comes to specific countries, Forssell said, citing Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia as examples.
Forssell added that he would support a pilot project for return centers led by the European Commission, but EU leadership had reportedly expressed little interest in the matter, the outlet noted.
