Nagaon (Assam), 01 June (HS): Two women in Assam’s Juria area have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals by a Foreigners’ Tribunal and subsequently sent to a detention camp following the tribunal’s verdict.
According to reports came to light on Monday, the Foreigners’ Tribunal declared the two women — Mamataz Begum and Jahanara Begum — as foreigners after they failed to establish their Indian citizenship before the competent authority. Following the ruling, authorities initiated the legal process and transferred both women to a detention centre.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the administration to identify and take action against illegal immigrants residing in the state. Officials stated that the tribunal’s decision was implemented as per existing legal procedures governing cases related to citizenship and illegal migration.
The identification and detention of the two women have drawn attention in the Juria region, with local authorities maintaining that necessary action was taken in accordance with the Foreigners’ Tribunal’s directive.-----------
