
Mumbai, 01 June (HS): Renowned playback singer Suman
Kalyanpur passed away at her residence in Mumbai on Sunday. She was 89. Before
her marriage she was Suman Hemadi and her songs in her maiden name were also
very popular.
Borth in Bhavanipur (now in Bangladesh) on January
28, 1937, she was in love with music since her childhood. Her entry was made
through a Marathi song composed by renowned poet and lyricist G D Madgulkar,
and then she never looked back. She sang thousands of songs in Marathi, Hindi,
Gujarati and Bangla.
Suman Kalyanpur was honoured with Padmabhushan award
by the government of India in 2023, which she received at the hands of
President Droupadi Murmu. During the last few years she remained away from the
field of music due to age-related health issues.
