
New Delhi, June 1 (H.S.): The Election Commission on Monday issued notifications for the biennial elections to 27 seats of the Rajya Sabha, as well as by-elections and elections to the Legislative Councils of three states. With the issuance of the notifications, the nomination process for these elections has commenced from today.
Biennial elections will be held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across ten states, while by-elections will be conducted for one seat each in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.
In addition, biennial elections will be held for nine seats in the Legislative Council of Bihar and seven seats in the Legislative Council of Karnataka. A by-election will also be conducted for one vacant seat in the Bihar Legislative Council.
According to the Election Commission, Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers have been appointed for both the biennial elections and the by-elections.
The nomination process began on June 1 and candidates may file their nomination papers until 3:00 p.m. on June 8. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 11.
Voting will be held on June 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the counting of votes will be conducted on the same day beginning at 5:00 p.m.
