New Delhi, June 1 (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep grief over the demise of legendary playback singer Suman Kalyanpur.

Expressing his condolences, the Prime Minister said that her melodious voice and soulful renditions enriched India’s cultural landscape. Through her songs, she carved out a special place in the hearts of music lovers and admirers of Indian cinema.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Deeply saddened by the passing of renowned singer Suman Kalyanpur. Her sweet voice and expressive singing enriched our cultural world. Through her songs, she earned a special place among music enthusiasts and fans of Indian cinema. My heartfelt condolences to her family and admirers.”

Notably, Suman Kalyanpur, born on January 28, 1937, was one of the most celebrated playback singers in Indian cinema. Over a distinguished career spanning more than six decades, she lent her voice to over 3,000 songs in multiple languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati.

She is fondly remembered for several evergreen melodies, most notably the iconic song Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche, which remains a timeless favorite among generations of music lovers.
