Imphal, 01 June (HS): Security forces have recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and tactical equipment during separate operations carried out in Manipur's Churachandpur and Ukhrul districts, officials said on Monday.

During a search operation conducted on May 31 in the Thinejang and Leimatak areas under Churachandpur Police Station, security personnel seized an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, two single-barrel rifles, a country-made 50 mm mortar, two mortar shells, two high-explosive mortar bombs and ten live rounds of 7.62 mm AK-47 ammunition. The operation also led to the recovery of three bulletproof jacket harnesses, three helmets and three pairs of jungle boots.

In another operation carried out on May 30 in the Yaolen Chepu village area under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district, security forces recovered four SBBL guns and two SBML guns. The team also seized 24 live 12-bore cartridges, multiple empty ammunition cases of different weapons, including SLR, AK and .303 rifles, along with communication and tactical equipment.

Among the other items recovered were three Baofeng wireless sets, an ammunition carrier belt, a tactical belt, a magazine pouch, a Bushnell binocular, a waist bag and two pieces of lead.

Officials said the recoveries are part of ongoing efforts to curb the movement of illegal arms and strengthen security across the state. Further investigation is underway to identify the individuals or groups linked to the seized weapons and equipment.-----------
