New Delhi, June 1 (H.S.): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday co-chaired the India–Australia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue in New Delhi with his Australian counterpart, Richard Marles. The dialogue reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral defence cooperation and explored new avenues for expanding collaboration between the two countries. The India–Australia defence partnership is considered well-positioned for continued growth in the years ahead.

During bilateral discussions with Richard Marles, Rajnath Singh said, “I would like to congratulate your government on the recently released 2026 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program. During today’s discussions, I look forward to hearing your views on this policy document and on the future prospects for the development of India–Australia defence relations.”

He added that both sides conducted a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of bilateral defence cooperation and deliberated on ways and means to further strengthen and expand the partnership.

Earlier, Rajnath Singh welcomed the Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister upon his arrival in New Delhi ahead of the second India–Australia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue. Subsequently, Richard Marles was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the three services in the presence of the Indian Defence Minister.

The Defence Ministers’ Dialogue was attended by newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ongoing defence cooperation and explored fresh opportunities to further strengthen the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Marles’ visit follows the first India–Australia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue held in Australia in October 2025 and reflects the growing momentum in the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Australia remains a key partner in India’s vision for a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The visit also highlights the increasing depth and resilience of the India–Australia Defence Partnership and underscores the commitment of both countries to enhancing strategic cooperation across multiple domains.
