
New Delhi, June 1 (H.S.): Global markets presented mixed cues on Monday. U.S. equities ended the previous session at record highs, while Dow Jones futures were trading marginally higher in early trading today. European markets closed with mixed results in the previous session, and Asian markets were also witnessing a mixed trend.
A rally in technology stocks helped maintain positive sentiment on Wall Street during the previous trading session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 363.37 points, or 0.72 percent, to close at 51,032.34. Similarly, the S&P 500 advanced 0.22 percent to finish at 7,580.06. The Nasdaq Composite also rose 0.20 percent, ending the session at 26,972.62. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures were trading 0.08 percent higher at 51,074.46.
European markets traded under pressure during the previous session before closing with mixed outcomes. The FTSE 100 declined 0.16 percent to close at 10,409.28. Likewise, France’s CAC 40 slipped 0.07 percent to settle at 8,183.34. In contrast, Germany’s DAX edged up 0.05 percent to close at 25,104.70.
Asian markets were displaying a mixed performance during trading today. Of the nine major Asian markets being tracked, five indices were trading in positive territory, while three were in the red. Thailand's stock market remained closed for a holiday, resulting in no movement in the SET Composite Index.
Among the weaker Asian markets, Gift Nifty was down 76 points, or 0.32 percent, at 23,614. China's Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.12 percent to 4,063.72. Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index was also trading lower, down 0.05 percent at 6,127.38.
On the positive side, Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 483.50 points, or 0.73 percent, to trade at 66,813. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 215.61 points, or 0.85 percent, to 25,398. South Korea’s KOSPI posted a sharp rally, surging 371.99 points, or 4.39 percent, to 8,848.14.
Similarly, Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted Index climbed 682.13 points, or 1.52 percent, to reach 45,415.07. Singapore’s Straits Times Index was also trading firmly higher, up 0.97 percent at 5,037.86.
Overall, global investors remained cautious amid ongoing geopolitical developments and economic uncertainties, resulting in mixed trading patterns across major international markets.
