Former Minister Arup Roy Voices Discontent With TMC Leadership Over Alleged Lack of Support

Kolkata, 01 June (H.S.): Trinamool Congress MLA from Howrah North and former state minister Arup Roy on Monday publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership, alleging that workers, legislators and even Members of Parliament were facing attacks without receiving adequate support from the party's top leadership.

Addressing a press conference at his residence, Roy said he was deeply disappointed that no senior party leader had contacted him after an alleged attack on his residence on Saturday. He claimed that the lack of concern from the leadership had caused him considerable anguish.

According to Roy, the incident occurred when government relief materials stored in a warehouse near his residence at Kasundia First Bye Lane in Howrah were being removed. He alleged that BJP supporters stopped the vehicle carrying the materials, staged a protest and raised slogans accusing him of corruption. Roy further claimed that his residence was subsequently attacked during the unrest.

The former minister said he had previously requested the district administration to remove the relief materials from the warehouse. When officials arrived to carry out the task, BJP workers allegedly launched a protest and attempted to malign his image.

Roy asserted that he was not the only Trinamool leader facing such situations. He claimed that Udaynarayanpur MLA Samir Panja and MP Kalyan Banerjee had also been subjected to attacks. According to him, party workers in several districts were facing hostility, yet the organizational response had fallen short of expectations.

Reflecting on the political situation, Roy said the party had faced electoral defeats in the past as well, but workers and leaders had always remained confident and actively engaged with the public. He remarked that the present circumstances were unlike anything he had witnessed before.

The veteran leader also hinted that he would reconsider his participation in future party programmes. In addition, he said that he intended to file a formal police complaint regarding Saturday’s incident.

The development comes at a politically sensitive time, with the Trinamool Congress having called for statewide protest programmes on Monday against the alleged attack on the party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. A protest demonstration led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also been scheduled at Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Roy’s remarks have sparked fresh discussion within political circles, as they reflect rare public criticism of the party leadership from a senior Trinamool legislator.
