Hyderabad, 07 May (H.S.):

Despite defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings (PBKS) maintained their strong position in the Indian Premier League points table with 13 points, currently holding second place. Although Hyderabad secured a 33-run victory in this match, young Australian batsman Cooper Connolly's performance emerged as highly positive news for Punjab.

Chasing a massive target of 236 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Punjab Kings endured a poor start, but Cooper Connolly delivered a splendid innings, scoring 107 runs off 59 balls with seven fours and eight sixes. With this century, he became the youngest foreign player in IPL history to achieve a hundred, breaking Quinton de Kock's decade-old record at just 22 years old.

Commenting on Connolly's innings in an official statement, spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule said, He is an extremely positive player with outstanding ability. His temperament is calm, and he is a complete team man. Adapting so quickly to India's varied grounds and pitches at such a young age is remarkable. Even when the match seemed slipping away, he kept the team's hopes alive and brought the game closer.

Despite the loss, Bahutule praised the team's atmosphere and unity. He noted that head coach Ricky Ponting has cultivated a strong culture of trust and support in the dressing room.

He added, The environment Ricky has created ensures we support each other and trust every player. Ups and downs are part of the tournament, but we will embrace the challenge and return even stronger. We know the kind of cricket we need to play. Our focus remains on concentrating on each match while maintaining a calm mindset.

Punjab Kings now returns to their home ground in Dharamshala for three crucial matches, hoping to leverage home conditions for a winning streak.

Bahutule stated, Dharamshala is a superb venue, and we will fully capitalize on home conditions. Our first phase was excellent. Though facing some difficulty now, we will rise again. As the tournament progresses, we will improve and grow stronger.

Punjab Kings will next face Delhi Capitals at HPCA Cricket Stadium, Dharamshala, next week, aiming to solidify their playoff spot.
