Paris/Tehran, 07 May (H.S.): In the wake of mounting tensions in the Gulf region, French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a strong appeal for the immediate restoration of free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking after a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Macron urged all parties to lift, without any preconditions or delay, the blockade on this critical maritime passage.

Macron stated in his remarks that the Strait of Hormuz is of vital importance for global trade and energy supplies, and emphasized that uninterrupted maritime traffic through the waterway must be reinstated as quickly as possible. He also stressed that recent events clearly demonstrate the need for robust multilateral cooperation to ensure security in the region.

The French president referred to a proposed multinational mission put forward by France and the United Kingdom, aimed at securing the safety of this key sea route. He called on other countries to consider joining this initiative, underscoring that collective action is essential to stabilizing the situation.

Macron further indicated that he would also discuss the issue with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

On the other side, Iranian President Pezeshkian reiterated his country’s deep mistrust toward the United States during the talks. The Iranian side maintains that external powers play a significant role in escalating tensions in the region and argues that any sustainable solution must be built on mutual respect and trust.

It is worth noting that in recent months, heightened military activity and a series of attacks have disrupted maritime traffic through this strategic corridor, triggering concerns in global markets. Against this backdrop, diplomatic efforts at the international level are intensifying, as governments seek to secure lasting peace and stability in one of the world’s most strategically vital waterways.
