Bengaluru, 06 May (H.S.): The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has expressed deep disappointment over being denied the opportunity to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs and final matches. Questions are now being raised regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s venue selection process.

In a detailed statement issued on Wednesday, KSCA stated that it had formally communicated its preparation, willingness, and keen interest to host the playoff matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to the BCCI. Association President Venkatesh Prasad had also personally discussed the matter with the Board. The statement noted that KSCA is disappointed with the allocation of IPL playoff matches to other venues. It highlighted that five league matches successfully hosted in Bengaluru this season received widespread appreciation for operations, crowd management, and spectator experience.

Notably, the BCCI has decided to hold the playoff matches in Dharamshala and Mullanpur, with the final in Ahmedabad. This will be the fourth time in the last five editions that the final is held in Ahmedabad. Tradition expected the final to be in Bengaluru, especially as Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions.

The BCCI had cited certain operational and logistical reasons for holding playoffs at three different venues this time.

It also mentioned that some requirements from local associations and authorities were not aligned with the Board's established guidelines.

However, KSCA clarified that its communication to the Board was entirely factual and operational, aimed solely at maintaining transparency and clarity. The association noted that Bengaluru has followed a consistent operational framework since IPL 2008, which was also implemented this season.

The statement further read, Despite our complete preparation and willingness, the BCCI has chosen other venues. Although the specific reasons have not been formally communicated to us, we respect the Board's decision and authority.

It may be recalled that no matches were held at Chinnaswamy Stadium following a stampede during celebrations after Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory last year. However, it received clearance for hosting matches after security review by government agencies prior to this season.

The BCCI has also assigned the venue for future international matches.

The five league matches hosted in Bengaluru this season were successful, though some logistical challenges arose due to the state government's demand for VIP tickets for MLAs.

KSCA concluded by stating that it remains fully prepared to host major national and international matches in the future and will continue to extend full cooperation to the BCCI and all relevant stakeholders.
