Lucknow,
05 May (HS): SP president Akhilesh Yadav asked on Tuesday that the government
promptly declare the adoption of women's quotas in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh
Assembly elections. The former chief minister urged the governing BJP at the
Centre to either agree to the 2027 deadline or publicly recognize that it is
against women's interests. The PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak) requests that
the BJP government quickly adopt women's reservation (law), which the whole
Opposition unanimously and cheerfully passed in Parliament, in the 2027 UP
Assembly elections. Otherwise, they (BJP) should claim that male-chauvinist BJP
members and their feudal cronies oppose women's reservations, Yadav asked. The
SP leader stated that if the government remained mute on the matter, his party
would launch a prolonged campaign.
Until
this declaration is made, we will continue to highlight this issue every week
in various venues, he stated. Yadav also shared a video of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi accusing the Samajwadi Party of blocking women's reservations in
Parliament. The SP's demand is part of his party's bigger 'PDA' plan, which
aims to consolidate the backward, Dalit, and minority vote banks ahead of the
important 2027 state elections. By connecting women's reservation to the
impending assembly elections, the SP hopes to put pressure on the BJP's
women-centric government promises.
