Bhubaneswar, 04 May (H.S.): At least five people were killed and eight others injured in a tragic road accident in Jajpur district of Odisha on Monday morning. The incident occurred near Barada Behera Tanki Chhak under Jenapur police limits in Dharmasala block.

According to sources a group of passengers was returning from a wedding function in Keonjhar in a Bolero vehicle. While traveling along National Highway-53, the vehicle rammed into the rear of a stationary Hyva truck parked on the roadside. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving several passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicle.

On receiving information, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were extricated and shifted to nearby medical facilities, but five of them succumbed to their injuries.

The injured, including the driver, were initially admitted to the Community Health Centre at Badachana. After preliminary treatment, they were referred to a hospital in Cuttack for advanced care.

The deceased include three women, a young girl, and a man. All the victims are reported to be residents of the Badachana area.

Senior police officials, including the SDPO of Jajpur, along with teams from Badachana and Jenapur police stations, have reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
