Gurdaspur, 04 May (H.S.): A man allegedly shot his wife dead and later died by suicide in a village under the Fatehgarh Churian area of Batala subdivision in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening in Qadian Rajputan village when the couple was alone at home. The woman’s body was found lying on the floor, while the man’s body was found on a sofa inside the house.

The deceased has been identified as Barinder Singh (42), also known as Binda. His wife, Parmesheel (40), also known as Shelly, was his second spouse. He had earlier divorced his first wife, Harjinder Kaur.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple had been facing ongoing domestic disputes. On the day of the incident, argument reportedly broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Barinder Singh allegedly used his licensed pistol to first shoot his wife in the leg and then in the right side of her head. He then shot himself in the chest.

Police officials, including DSP Lalit Kumar and SHO Lakhwinder Singh from Aliwal police station, reached the spot after receiving information. Officials said the incident appears to have occurred due to a domestic dispute.

Both bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital in Batala for post-mortem examination. The police have recovered the licensed weapon from the scene and started further investigation.
