Guwahati, 04 May (HS): Jitendra Singh has stepped down from his position as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary in-charge of Assam with immediate effect, following the party’s disappointing performance in the state assembly elections. He submitted his resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

In his resignation letter, Singh described the election results as disheartening and took full responsibility for the outcome. He acknowledged that despite the party’s efforts, they were unable to meet the expectations of the people of Assam, prompting him to step down from the role.

He further stated that in the interest of the organisation, it was necessary to make way for new leadership and direction. Singh expressed gratitude for the opportunity and trust placed in him during his tenure.

The senior leader also thanked the people of Assam, party workers, and leaders for their support and respect, adding that he remains committed to the party’s ideology and values and will continue to contribute in the future.

Notably, following the Congress party’s crushing defeat in Assam, a series of resignations has begun within the organisation. The party’s poor performance has been such that it has failed to secure enough seats to claim the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, leaving the post vacant as per rules.---------
