Chandigarh, 04 May (H.S.): The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has arrested the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Chamanpreet Singh alias Cheeni, who was shot dead outside a gym parking area on March 18, 2026. Police identified the accused as Amreen, a resident of Sector 35, Chandigarh, who allegedly orchestrated the contract killing over a property dispute.
According to investigators, Amreen had developed a deep grudge against Chamanpreet Singh over a property deal in New Chandigarh. She alleged that Chamanpreet had cheated her during the transaction by selling the property at highly inflated rates and later refusing to hand over possession, which reportedly caused her heavy financial losses. Police said she wanted to “teach him a lesson” and allegedly turned to organised crime to settle the matter.
The investigation revealed that the conspiracy started in 2025 when Amreen and her associates discussed ways to resolve the dispute. She later contacted Harshpreet Singh Bains, a property dealer from Village Kaimbala in Mohali, who allegedly acted as a link between her and notorious gangster Lucky Patial through encrypted communication platforms.
Police said Amreen remained in regular contact with Lucky Patial and allegedly promised a large amount of money in exchange for Chamanpreet’s murder.
The investigation gained momentum after the arrest of Harshpreet Singh on April 29, 2026. Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch team conducting checking near Satsang Bhawan in Maloya apprehended him. During the operation, police recovered an imported .45 bore pistol and two live cartridges. Verification later revealed that the weapon was registered in Amreen’s name. A separate case under the Arms Act was also registered.
Police further revealed that Lucky Patial allegedly arranged logistics for the shooters, identified as Rajan alias Piyush Pehlwan and Pritam. The duo was allegedly provided weapons, a motorcycle, and financial support before carrying out the murder on March 18. With the arrest of Amreen and Harshpreet Singh, police believe they have exposed the link between a personal property dispute and organised crime. Further investigation is underway to identify other accomplices involved in the case.
