Ahilyanagar, 04
Apr (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mega Alliance retained both the seats in
the by-elections held in Baramati and Rahuri constituencies of Maharashtra. Sunetra Pawar has come victorious in Baramati
with a record margin of votes, while Akshay Kardile also won the Rahuri seat in
Ahilyanagar with a record margin of
1,12,587 votes over his nearest rival Govind
Mokate of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) .
Mokate secured only
27,506 votes as against 1,40,093 by
Kardile. The seat had fallen vacant following death of Shivajirao
Kardile, elected from Rahuri on BJP ticket. The other six candidates who were
in the fray lost their deposits.
Efforts were
made by BJP and other major political parties to elect Pawar and Kadile
unopposed, but some independents and small parties fielded their candidates.
Polling, therefore, was held on April 23 and the results were announced on Monday.
Sunetra Pawar
won Baramati elections with a margin of 2.18 votes. All other contestants lost
their deposits.
