Thiruvananthapuram, 04 May (H.S.):The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured victories in Nemom and Chathannoor constituencies, emerging with just two seats in the Kerala Assembly elections despite putting up strong fights in several segments across the state.

In Nemom, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar defeated LDF minister V Sivankutty by a margin of 4,165 votes, marking a significant win for the party in the state capital region.

Meanwhile, Chathannoor witnessed a nail-biting finish, with BJP candidate B B Gopakumar defeating CPI’s R Rajendran after a fiercely contested battle. Gopakumar secured 50,634 votes and won by a margin of 4,402 votes. The constituency remained on edge throughout the counting process, with leads changing hands multiple times before the final outcome was decided in a near photo finish.

Chathannoor turned out to be one of the most closely fought constituencies in the state, with suspense continuing from the initial rounds till the final stages of counting. Both candidates maintained strong positions during the counting, but the BJP nominee managed to pull ahead in the decisive rounds.

Despite mounting serious challenges in at least six constituencies, the NDA’s overall performance remained limited. Early trends had indicated the possibility of a broader breakthrough, but the alliance was able to convert only two contests into victories.

The results underline the BJP’s continued ability to make inroads in select pockets such as Nemom and Chathannoor, even as Kerala’s electoral landscape remains largely dominated by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).
