
Guwahati, 04 May (HS). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a clear majority on its own in the 2026 Assam assembly elections, paving the way for its third consecutive term in power in the state.
According to the latest trends and declared results, the BJP has already won 65 seats in the 126-member Assembly and is leading in 17 others, taking its projected tally to around 82 seats. This puts the party comfortably above the majority mark without relying on its allies.
The BJP had contested the elections as part of an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). Among its allies, the AGP has won 5 seats and is leading on another 5, while the BPF has secured victory on 7 seats and is ahead in 3 more. Together, the NDA alliance appears set to cross the 100-seat mark.
On the opposition side, the Congress has won 7 seats and is leading in 12 others, with its total expected to reach around 19 seats. The AIUDF has won one seat and is ahead in another, while the Raijor Dal has also secured one seat and is leading on one more. Additionally, one candidate contesting on a Trinamool Congress ticket has emerged victorious.
As per the Election Commission’s official update, results for 87 seats have been declared so far, while counting is still underway for the remaining 39 constituencies.-------------
