
Guwahati, 04 May (HS): Counting of votes for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections began at 8 am on Monday across all 126 constituencies of the state. Early trends from the first round indicate that Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and MP Gaurav Gogoi is trailing behind BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami.
According to initial figures, Hitendra Nath Goswami has secured 4,993 votes, while Gaurav Gogoi has polled 3,937 votes, trailing by 1,056 votes. The counting process is underway amid tight security arrangements at designated centres.
As per official data released by the Election Commission, trends from 53 constituencies have emerged so far. The BJP is leading in 32 seats, followed by Congress in 9 seats. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is ahead in 5 seats, while the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) are leading in 3 seats each. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is currently ahead in 1 seat.-----------
