NEW DELHI, May 31 (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar on the occasion of her birth anniversary on Sunday, describing her life as a shining symbol of dedication to society, culture, and nation-building.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that the entire nation remembers Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar with profound respect for her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to public welfare.

He stated that her life remains an exemplary model of good governance, patriotism, and cultural pride. According to the Prime Minister, Ahilyabai Holkar ruled with courage, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty, setting enduring standards for leadership and public service.

Prime Minister Modi described her contributions in the fields of justice and public welfare as historic. He also made special mention of her pivotal role in the restoration, reconstruction, and preservation of numerous religious sites and pilgrimage centres across the country.

He said that Ahilyabai Holkar’s life symbolizes selfless service to society, cultural preservation, and national development, and will continue to inspire generations to come.

Ahilyabai Holkar was the ruler of the Indore State during the 18th century and belonged to the Holkar dynasty of the Maratha Empire. She is widely regarded as one of India’s most revered and visionary rulers.

Born in 1725, she governed from her capital at Maheshwar and earned widespread acclaim for her efficient administration, commitment to justice, and people-centric governance. Her reign is remembered for its emphasis on public welfare, infrastructure development, and religious harmony.

Ahilyabai Holkar played a significant role in the reconstruction and preservation of several prominent temples and pilgrimage sites across India, including the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, among many others.

Her rule is often associated with justice, social welfare, cultural revival, and administrative excellence, making her one of the most celebrated figures in Indian history.
