
Pune, 30 May (HS): The main accused in the deaths on
consuming spurious liquor in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Yogesh Wankhede, had mixed methanol
in the liquor. Methanol is a poisonous chemical which can affect nervous
system, visual dysfunction, gastro-intestinal disturbances and can lead to
death.
Adulteration of liquor using methanol came to the
fore during interrogation of Yogesh Wankhede. He had procured a can of 35 litre
of liquor from Radheshyam Prajapati of Urali Kanchan for Rs 1,900, to be sold
illegally for Rs 2,700 in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. In an effort to earn more
profit he mixed methanol purchased online.
Meanwhile police have arrested eight suspects in
this connection. They were produced in the court, which granted them police
custody till June 8.
Investigation into the illegal liquor trade network
was in progress.
