Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva met the bereaved families of the victims of the Vivek Vihar fire tragedy, expressing his deep sorrow over the horrific incident. Addressing reporters at the site, he described the fire as an extremely heartbreaking tragedy that has left the city in shock.
Sachdeva said that, as per the initial information available, the fire reportedly started after an explosion in an air conditioner inside the building, which triggered a massive blaze. He stated that the police received the first call at around 3:45 a.m. and firefighters reached the spot by approximately 3:52 a.m.
Around 14 fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the flames, during which about 20 people were rescued, while nine people lost their lives.
The BJP leader recounted that he personally met the families of the deceased, and the scenes he witnessed were deeply moving and distressing. He affirmed that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the circumstances of the fire.
According to police, a delivery boy reportedly saw sparks in the AC unit, which is believed to have caused the incident. The families of the victims have also been conveying the same version of events, claiming that the fire originated from the air conditioner.
