
Imphal, 03 May (HS): Security forces in violence-hit Manipur have intensified operations to maintain law and order, leading to the arrest of a woman cadre linked to the banned outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), along with the seizure of arms, explosives and narcotics over the past 24 hours.
According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Sunday, a joint team arrested the active woman cadre of PREPAK (Pro) on Saturday from Thongjao Mayai Leikai area under Waikhong Police Station in Kakching district along the Indo-Myanmar Sugnu Road. The arrested individual has been identified as Longjam Genevie alias Thoithoibi Devi (34), a resident of Imphal West district.
In a separate operation the same day, Manipur Police apprehended a woman drug peddler, Takhelambam Sonia Chanu (46), from a mobile check post under Andro Police Station in Imphal East district. She was found in possession of 5.56 kg of opium along with a mobile phone.
Meanwhile, during another operation conducted on May 2, security personnel recovered a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 9 kg, a 12-bore rifle and five live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from Henzang village under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district.
Security forces have continued search operations and area dominance exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across multiple districts, resulting in further recovery of arms and ammunition. On Saturday alone, a total of 112 checkpoints were set up across hill and valley regions to monitor movement and enhance security.
Additionally, safe passage of 134 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway-37 was ensured under strict security arrangements. Convoys were provided along sensitive routes to guarantee uninterrupted and secure transportation.
Further legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway at the concerned police stations, officials added.----------
