03 May (HS): Three ladies were killed when the embankment of a pond fell on
them as they were scooping soil on Sunday, according to authorities. Two other ladies
were hurt in an incident near the Manjhanpur police station. Shivank Singh,
Circle Officer (Manjhanpur), stated that Geeta Devi (35) of Thamba village, her
daughter Ankita (6), Uttara Devi (45), Jitiya Devi, and Phuliya went to the
pond outside their village at 7.30 a.m. to dig for soil for plastering earthen
stoves. While they were working, a pile of soil fell and buried all five
ladies. He stated that after hearing their cries, local people came to the
scene.
Police
arrived at the scene after getting information about the occurrence and, with
the assistance of locals, rescued all five ladies. Geeta Devi, Ankita, and
Uttara Devi all died on the scene. Jitiya Devi and Phuliya have been taken to
the district hospital for treatment and are no longer in danger, Singh stated. Police
said the bodies had been sent for a post-mortem examination.
