Bhubaneswar, 03 May (H.S.): A tragic incident was reported from Balasore district, where two minor girls drowned in a village pond in Bhuinpada under Nuagaon Panchayat of Remuna block on Sunday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Annapurna Mallick (10), daughter of Sanjay Mallick, and Anyasha Mallick (10), daughter of Sujit Mallick. The two cousins had reportedly gone to the pond at around 11 AM to take a bath when they accidentally slipped into deep water and drowned.

Family members grew concerned after the girls went missing and later discovered them in the pond. They were immediately rushed to the Nilagiri Subdivisional Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

The incident has plunged both families and the entire village into mourning. A large number of locals gathered at the hospital as news of the tragedy spread, creating an atmosphere of grief.

Police officials have visited the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the drowning.
