Jammu, 03 May (H.S.): Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Gulam Ali Khatana today accused the National Conference (NC) and other Kashmir-based political parties of having a history of raising conflicting and emotional issues to mislead the people, rather than addressing their day-to-day needs
Addressing a public rally in Kot Bhalwal near here, he alleged that in the past, slogans like autonomy and self-rule were used to “befool innocent people,” who placed their trust in these parties but did not receive adequate attention to basic amenities, peace-building, tourism promotion, industrial growth, or employment generation.
He questioned the Omar Abdullah-led Government for what he described as ignoring its mandate and manifesto commitments. Highlighting concerns from the Kandi belt of the Jammu region, Khatana pointed out that residents are facing a severe water crisis amid extreme heat conditions. He specifically mentioned areas such as Bathindi, Sunjwan, Malik Market, and Doongia Raika, alleging that they have been neglected and not covered under schemes like AMRUT or the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Khatana further claimed that residents continue to suffer while departments such as Urban Development and PHE shift responsibility onto each other instead of resolving the issues. He warned the Government against “testing the patience of the people” through continued inaction.
Khatana alleged that rural areas of Jammu are grappling with high electricity bills, frequent power cuts, and poor road connectivity. He alleged that people are struggling for basic amenities while the Government remains preoccupied with political activities, thereby failing to address the concerns of the poor and marginalized sections of society.
He concluded by stating that neglecting these pressing issues amounts to a breach of the trust that people placed in the Government through their mandate.
