

New Delhi/Kingston, 03 May (H.S.): External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has arrived in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, on his first official visit to the country, where he was warmly received. During his arrival, he expressed appreciation to Jamaica’s Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith for the gracious welcome.
Dr. Jaishankar wrote on the social‑media platform X that he is deeply touched by the warm reception extended to him during his first trip to Jamaica. Over the next two days, he is scheduled to interact with Jamaica’s top leadership, the business community, and people of Indian origin. Indian‑origin residents and children in Kingston gave him a special traditional welcome upon his arrival.
It may be recalled that the External Affairs Minister’s visit to Jamaica spans two days, during which he will hold discussions with senior Jamaican leaders, business representatives, and the local Indian community.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the trip is part of a broader Caribbean tour. Dr. Jaishankar is also on official visits to Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, and the overall tour will continue until May 10. During this period, he will meet the foreign ministers of all three countries. The meetings are expected to cover the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.
