Kozhikode, 03 May (H.S.):In a significant relaxation ahead of vote counting day, the Kozhikode district administration has scaled back its earlier order imposing prohibitory restrictions across the district. District Collector Snehal Kumar announced that the curbs will now be enforced only within a 200-metre radius of counting centres, instead of district-wide implementation.

The revised order comes a day after the administration had declared that prohibitory measures would be imposed throughout Kozhikode district on counting day to maintain law and order. The initial announcement had triggered strong objections from various organisations and political groups, who argued that such sweeping restrictions were unnecessary and excessive.

Responding to the criticism, the Collector clarified that the restrictions have been limited to the immediate vicinity of counting centres as a precautionary measure. The move aims to prevent overcrowding, ensure smooth conduct of counting, and maintain public order during the crucial process of vote tabulation.

Officials reiterated that the restrictions are part of standard security protocols followed during election counting, where access is tightly regulated to avoid disruptions or untoward incidents. Only authorised personnel will be permitted within the restricted zones.

Meanwhile, as part of the prohibitory measures, the district administration has also banned the sale of firecrackers across Kozhikode on counting day. Authorities said this step is intended to prevent safety hazards and maintain order during potential victory celebrations.

While celebrations following the declaration of results will not be entirely restricted, officials have issued a clear warning that any excessive or unruly behaviour will invite strict action. The administration has urged political workers and the public to celebrate responsibly and adhere to guidelines to ensure a peaceful counting day.

With tensions typically running high during result announcements, the administration’s calibrated approach seeks to strike a balance between maintaining order and allowing normal public activity.
