Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed deep sorrow over the death of nine people in the Vivek Vihar fire tragedy, sharing her condolences on the social‑media platform X.
In her post, she said she is deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the fire that broke out in the residential building.
The Chief Minister stated that the injured persons from the incident are currently undergoing treatment at the nearest hospital, and she prayed for their early recovery. She said: “My thoughts stand with the bereaved families at this difficult hour. I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength to bear this painful loss.”
She added that local administration, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Police officials are fully engaged and alert in the relief and rescue operations. She said the situation is being closely monitored and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected people. Local MLAs and Municipal Corporation councilors are also helping in the relief work. The Delhi government, she said, stands firmly with the victims’ families in this difficult time.
It may be noted that the Delhi Fire Service received information about the fire from the Vivek Vihar Police Station around 3:48 a.m. on Sunday. When the fire teams reached the spot, several flats in the building were already engulfed in flames.
During the relief and rescue operations, nine bodies were recovered from different floors of the building. According to the police, the bodies of five members of the same family were found in a flat on the rear side of the second floor.
