Golaghat, 27 May (HS): A shocking abduction incident has once again raised concern in Assam after a schoolgirl was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint in the Kamarbandha area of Golaghat district while on her way to school.

According to police sources on Wednesday, the girl had left for school on her bicycle as usual when a group of unidentified persons intercepted her on the road. The accused allegedly threatened her by showing a pistol and forcibly took her away.

After receiving information about the incident, family members and local residents traced the girl to a house in the village where she had allegedly been kept hidden. Following her rescue, the student told reporters that the abductors dragged her away at gunpoint while she was heading to school. She further alleged that she was threatened inside the house and was told that she could be sold.

The incident triggered tension in the locality, with angry residents and family members gathering outside the police station and demanding strict action against those involved in the abduction.

Police have detained two persons and launched an investigation into the incident and further legal action is underway.----------
