Kolkata, 27 May (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation has made a major breakthrough in the 2019 post-poll violence case in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, involving the murder of three BJP workers. The central agency has arrested 10 people, including Kader Molla.
According to CBI sources, the arrests were carried out on the basis of evidence collected over a long period, witness statements, and local intelligence inputs. Investigators are currently questioning the accused to gather more information related to the case.
The incident dates back to June 8, 2019, when political clashes allegedly broke out in the Najat area following the Lok Sabha elections. During the violence, BJP workers Pradip Mondal, Sukanta Mondal, and Debdas Mondal were allegedly shot and later attacked with sharp weapons, leading to their deaths. The dispute reportedly began over the removal of party flags.
The case was initially investigated by the state CID. However, in the chargesheet later filed, the names of 28 individuals, including Shahjahan Sheikh, were reportedly dropped. Following this, family members of the deceased BJP workers approached the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe.
After directions from the High Court, the CBI took over the investigation. Officials are now treating the arrest of the 10 accused as a significant development in the case.
