Moonak, 27 May (H.S.): Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal on wednsday visited the Civil Hospital in Moonak to review the medical treatment being provided to people who fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated food at a wedding function in the area.

During his visit, the minister personally interacted with the patients admitted to the hospital and enquired about their health condition. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted medical facilities and immediate treatment for all affected persons.

According to officials, several people, including women, children and elderly individuals, reportedly became sick after eating food served at the wedding function. The affected persons were admitted to Civil Hospital Moonak, while some patients were shifted to private hospitals for further treatment.

Taking serious note of the incident, Barinder Kumar Goyal instructed the Civil Surgeon of Sangrur, SDM and other concerned officials to provide all necessary medical facilities without delay. He also ordered round-the-clock monitoring of the situation until every patient recovers completely.

Following the directions, teams from the health department and district administration reached the hospitals to supervise treatment arrangements. Specialist doctors from Kohrian, Sangrur, Bhawanigarh and Lehragaga were also deployed to assist in treatment, while a special medical team from Patiala was called to Moonak Hospital. Some patients were referred to Sangrur for advanced medical care.

Speaking to media persons, the Cabinet Minister said that around 72 people had been admitted to government and private hospitals after consuming food at the wedding function. He stated that all patients are now out of danger and the government is closely monitoring the situation.

He added that three ambulances have been kept on standby to handle any emergency situation. Patients admitted to the hospital also expressed satisfaction over the treatment and facilities being provided.

Barinder Kumar Goyal further demanded that the Union Government should introduce stricter laws across the country against food adulteration, particularly in milk and other edible items, to prevent such unfortunate incidents in future. He assured that the Punjab Government is treating the matter seriously and appropriate action will be taken after investigation.
