
New Delhi, May 27 (H.S.): The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday stated that not a single case of Ebola has been reported in the country and that the government is continuously monitoring the situation.
In a statement, the Ministry said that in view of the recent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in certain parts of Africa, the Government of India is maintaining constant surveillance over the situation.
As a precautionary measure, an individual who had recently returned from Uganda was placed in isolation for monitoring and testing at the state-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Bengaluru after complaining of mild body pain.
According to health officials, the individual had no other serious symptoms apart from body ache.
The sample of the suspected patient was sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. The test report did not confirm Ebola Virus Disease, and the result was found to be negative.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that surveillance has been intensified in coordination with the concerned state government, and all necessary public health protocols are being followed in accordance with the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization.
The Ministry reiterated that no case of Ebola Virus Disease has been detected in India.
The government further stated that screening and surveillance measures continue to remain in place at designated entry points and within the public health system across the country. Citizens have been urged not to panic, avoid rumours, and rely only on information provided through official and government sources.
