Guwahati, 27 May (HS): BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Dr. Devajit Mahanta on Wednesday said the latest CAG State Finance Report reflects Assam’s rapid economic progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to the report tabled in the Assam Legislative Assembly, the state’s GDP increased from ₹2,27,958 crore in 2015–16 to ₹6,43,667 crore in 2024–25, with an average annual growth rate of 18% over the last four financial years. Assam’s share in the national GDP also rose from 1.6% to 1.95% during the same period.

Dr. Mahanta said Assam has improved its national ranking from 28th position in 2015–16 to 17th among states and Union Territories due to sustained development and transparent governance. He also stated that nearly 1.5 lakh youths have received employment opportunities through government initiatives.

The CAG report further noted that Assam’s unemployment rate declined to 3.9% in 2024–25, lower than the national average of 6.5%, while the state’s per capita income increased to ₹1,59,185 from ₹86,947 in 2020–21.------------
